RE: Update on upcoming events
Sent via e-mail and posted on the GECC website
The Georgia Emergency Communications Conference (GECC) Committee would like to take a brief moment to provide an update on the status of events previously scheduled.
Our APCO/NENA Fall Training Workshop is scheduled for September 8 – 11, 2020 at the Atlanta Marriott Peachtree Corners. Earlier today, Co-Chairs Jonathan Jones and Alex Spencer met with Georgia APCO President Lynn Smith and Georgia NENA President Tamika Kendrick via teleconference to discuss the status of the Fall Workshop.
While the event is still four months away, we found it important to begin discussions about the realty of being able to continue as planned as well as the need to consider contingency options should we be faced with the decision to postpone or cancel the workshop. We are currently in communication with staff from the venue to evaluate options and potential changes to comply with any applicable guidelines or orders that may be in place during the event.
Please know that the safety and well-being of our attendees is our primary focus in these discussions. While we are dedicated to bringing great training opportunities to our Public Safety Telecommunicators in Georgia, we also understand the current challenges we face with the COVID-19 pandemic.
As discussions continue, we will keep you updated on any developments as any changes are made. Please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone on the Conference Committee or a Board Member of Georgia APCO or NENA if we can help answer any questions. Please keep our Georgia public safety family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue fighting the COVID-19 battle.
